Hotel Garza Library; Post Texas

by on Apr.26, 2011, under Rural America, Texas, Travel

My wife Beverly & I just completed a wonderful week long road trip. We saw lot’s of great sights, great family and a number of wonderful photo opportunities. Last night at the suggestion of my brother we found ourselves at the “Hotel Garza Bed & Breakfast” in the historic town of Post Texas. Unfortunately, we arrived late & too tired to enjoy time in this wonderful library space. We pretty much crawled into bed after a short visit by our host Ruth & Ian and of course their canine companion Buddy. This morning we headed home after a great home cooked breakfast. We ended up stopping a couple of times along the way for more photo opportunities, but more about that later.

Horses Galloping through the Driskill Hotel Bar

by on Jan.26, 2010, under Architectural Photography, Architecture, Austin Texas, Texas, Travel

My favorite hotel in Austin Texas is the Driskill Hotel on 6th Street. If you find yourself in downtown Austin and want a nice quiet bar just a few feet from the night time party mayhem of Sixth street, check out this place. You can see some more of my images of the Driskill Hotel (here).

Sunset over the Historic Driskill Hotel in Austin Texas

by on Oct.09, 2009, under Architectural Photography, Architecture, Austin Texas

In the heart of the Austin Texas 6th Street music scene stands one of my favorite hotels in the world. In some ways it’s sort of a shame it’s in my home town because I have to come up with a pretty good excuse to spend the night there when I could just as easily be spending the night in my own bed. (Fortunately my wedding anniversary provides a great justification.) In any case they have a wonderful quiet bar that exudes all the class you would expect from an elegant old hotel. It provides a great reprise from the din of 6th street after a downtown photo session. (You can also see some interior photos from a previous post here.)

A Wonderful evening at the Historic Driskill Hotel

by on Aug.17, 2009, under Architecture, Austin Texas, HDR, Texas Buildings, Travel

My wife & I spent last night at the historic Driskill Hotel in Austin Texas. When Beverly & I married six years ago we spent our wedding night in one of theDriskill’s wonderful balcony rooms so I decided it would be a great way to spend our anniversary. I love old historic hotels. Those that have been following my blog may remember my post about the Boulderado Hotel in Boulder Colorado. Walking down the halls I easily transport myself  into the lives of those that have walked those same hallways for so many decades. The Driskill is like walking into a giant old time machine. Every where you look the craftmanship & service have the polish & detail you rairly find these days. I need to make our reservation for next August.
