Street Bands Entertaining at 2012 SXSW; Austin Texas
by John Rogers on Mar.16, 2012, under Austin Texas, HDR, Music, SXSW, Travel
Last night I ventured downtown again to enjoy the people watching and music listening at SXSW on 6th Street in Austin Texas. While I was there I could not pass up the opportunity to take a few photos. Ok, more than a few… In addition to all the official music venues, you could not walk more than 50 feet without being (hopefully) entertained by musicians and other entertainers entertaining the throngs. The guys in the foreground are members of the quite entertaining indie/folk/rock group NEMES that traveled down from Boston MA for the festival. You can see my other SXSW photos here.

2012 Austin Skyline
by John Rogers on Mar.12, 2012, under Austin Texas, HDR, Travel
It’s a beautiful day in Austin Texas. Despite the fact we are in the middle of a record drought, there have been quite a few cloudy grey wet weather days lately so it’s great to see the sun. I’m glad the visitors in town for SXSW are having the opportunity to enjoy a little beautiful Austin spring weather!
2012 Austin Skyline Sunset
by John Rogers on Jan.20, 2012, under Austin Texas, HDR, Travel
Last night I had the opportunity to do some photography of the Austin skyline after dark for a long time client. I decided to get to the location early to grab some personal pre-sunset images as well, and shot this while I was waiting. I’m not sure, but the client may decide they like this better than their original vision. We shall see…
One thing that is obvious (if you look close) is the cranes have returned to Austin. Not the pretty flying kind but the big ugly steel ones. You can see where work has begun on at least one large project. It seemed like it took years of waiting to get a shot of the Austin skyline without numerous cranes in the shot. Finally, last year the skyline was (relatively) crane free. It looks like those days are over as the ‘progress’ continues.
Musicowly Speaking; The Long Center Austin Texas
by John Rogers on Dec.12, 2011, under Austin Texas, HDR, Travel
Musicowly Speaking, The Long Center in Austin Texas is one of my favorite local venues for music and performance. The acoustics are great, the facility is beautiful and the large patio out front provides a stunning view of the Austin skyline. (You can see more of my Long Center Photos here.) The beautiful cow in the photo was created by artist Robin Tripaldi for Austin’s Cows on Parade.
