Bluebonnets, Wildflowers, & the Perfect Picnic
by John Rogers on Apr.22, 2010, under Texas, Travel, Wildflowers
I (finally) got out to try and capture some of the spectacular wildflower displays of 2010 when Beverly & I discovered this ranch near Chalk Bluff Texas. Bluebonnets & Indian Paintbrushes covered the gently rolling hills as far as you could see. After taking a few images we took the blanket out of our trunk & had a picnic under the huge oak tree near the center of the photograph. The weather was perfect & the scent of wildflowers filled the air. It really does not get much better than this.
Bluebonnets & Red Poppy Texas Wildflowers

It is beginning to look like springtime in Texas. The bluebonnets are popping up everywhere & the highways are surrounded by color. After a severe drought, the past few months have brought central Texas a greater than normal rainfall so the people that know these thing are saying it should be a beautiful year for wildflowers.

Ready for Spring

Springtime in Texas means wildflowers. And Me, , I’m feeling like spring. The sun is out, ok, it’s 39 degrees outside, but there is a gentle breeze, it just feels like spring is around the corner. Very soon flowers will start to bloom along the Texas roadways. With all the rain we have had, hopefully, there will be lots of wildflowers. And, perhaps in the next few months, I’ll have some great wildflower shots to post. We shall see…
Texas Bluebonnets

It’s springtime in Texas. Even driving in the city, the medians & shoulders of the highways are spotted & sometimes covered with a wash of spring color. Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity this spring to make it out into the central Texas countryside so I am cheating a bit & posting a photo I took last spring with my 4×5 camera near Ennis Texas. While these days most of my photography is done digitally with my Nikon, there is nothing like the detail in a 4×5. For perspective, while a good digital image these days is between 10 & 20 mega pixels, this image was originally scanned at 500 mega pixels. I actually have a 40″ by 50″ print of this image hanging in my dining room & you can see every leaf & petal.
