The Capitol 10k is being run this Sunday in Austin Texas & I’m more than a little disappointed that I won’t be available to join in the festivities. This photo was taken last year not too far from the start on Congress Avenue. If you know any long time participants in the Capitol 10K, I’m sure they would enjoy an art print on canvas or metal of this or another great shot of this Austin Tradition that you can see here.

Last night I ventured downtown again to enjoy the people watching and music listening at SXSW on 6th Street in Austin Texas. While I was there I could not pass up the opportunity to take a few photos. Ok, more than a few… In addition to all the official music venues, you could not walk more than 50 feet without being (hopefully) entertained by musicians and other entertainers entertaining the throngs. The guys in the foreground are members of the quite entertaining indie/folk/rock group NEMES that traveled down from Boston MA for the festival. You can see my other SXSW photos here.

It’s a beautiful day in Austin Texas. Despite the fact we are in the middle of a record drought, there have been quite a few cloudy grey wet weather days lately so it’s great to see the sun. I’m glad the visitors in town for SXSW are having the opportunity to enjoy a little beautiful Austin spring weather!

Austin Texas seems to have an ever changing skyline. I do a fair amount of Austin Stock photography sales so I am always looking for new images. Yesterday the clouds were looking interesting so I decided to do a little walking around downtown looking for photo opportunities. I parked my car on Congress Avenue (the main street in downtown Austin) and this wall was directly in front of me. I’m not sure why I had never noticed it before, but it was calling my name. I particularly like the juxtaposition of the ‘spear like’ Frost Bank building as though it’s providing an alternate answer to the message on the building.

This photo of 6th Street in downtown Austin was shot about 7:50 one evening. The great thing about photographing night shots shortly after sunset is you you get that nice “Speilberg Blue” nighttime sky. The bad thing about photographing night shots on 6th street shortly after sunset is that for a spot that is known for it’s lively crowds, there are very few people. 6th street doesn’t really get started till around 10:pm. (To get an idea what 6th street looks like on a busy night check out the SXSW posting that was shot at Maggie Mae’s right across the street from here looking towards the Blind Pig Pub.) Meanwhile… I had no choice but to take the shot while the light was right, the carriage driver could just relax and enjoy the evening while she was waiting on the night.

Another reason Austin Texas is known as “The Live Music Capitol of the World” …
Every year thousands of visitors travel from around the world to attend the Music, Film & Interactive SXSW or ‘South by Southwest’ conferences & Seminars in Austin Texas. I went down to 6th Street Friday night and took a few photos. This one was taken from the balcony of Maggie Mae’s over looking the Blind Pig Pub.
