I was walking down Congress Avenue in Austin Texas during SXSW and an Austin band; “The Jazz Pharaohs” were playing in front of The Elephant Room so I thought I’d stop and take a few photos. Great music and nice people.

Last night I ventured downtown again to enjoy the people watching and music listening at SXSW on 6th Street in Austin Texas. While I was there I could not pass up the opportunity to take a few photos. Ok, more than a few… In addition to all the official music venues, you could not walk more than 50 feet without being (hopefully) entertained by musicians and other entertainers entertaining the throngs. The guys in the foreground are members of the quite entertaining indie/folk/rock group NEMES that traveled down from Boston MA for the festival. You can see my other SXSW photos here.

Welcome to SXSW! Thousands of visitors are arriving in Austin this week for the annual SXSW Music, Film & Interactive conferences. One of the welcoming sights that gives visitors a clue of how important the music culture is in Austin is the display of giant Gibson guitars at the Austin airport baggage claim.

Continuing what is ending up being ‘Seattle Week’, here is another Seattle photo. The building on the left is the “Experience Music Project” building. I really would love to be able to spend more time photographing this amazing building. On this day I had a very limited time to shoot and the position of the sun really limited my angles. Fortunately, the Seattle Space Needle provided a nice sunblock to limit the lens flair as well as a wonderful balancing architectural element for the photo.
