Last week we traveled to Atlanta where I was the proud recipient of a 2012 Bronze Medal at the International Photographic Competition of the Professional Photographer Association.
It was a great trip with lots of informative and inspiring sessions. One evening before heading out for dinner I set my camera up and shot this out of out window at the Omni Hotel.
I’ve come to love doing these types of commercial portraits. By doing a composite such as my portrait of Stephanie in the Paramount Theatre below, I can create an environmental portrait that allows a great deal of artistic license in my treatment of the ‘environment’. Meanwhile, since the talent is actually photographed against plain background in a studio environment, it requires a great deal less time commitment on the talent than actually shooting in the chosen environment. It’s a win win.

I love this cabin. I had the good fortune of photographing it for a Real Estate Photography client.
The owner had the cabin meticulously disassembled from it’s original location and reconstructed here to create a home that was as period authentic as possible. The cabin’s interior is every bit as charming as the exterior. The owner even had a nearby blacksmith re-create all the hardware including the door hinges and locks. The only way you would know it was not constructed in the 1800′s is that it has all the comforts of this century, including indoor plumbing, electric lights, and air conditioning.
It was great having the opportunity to create some beautiful photographs so the Realtor can properly show of this amazing cabin and the 700 acre ranch that surrounds it to prospective clients.

”Beep beep, beep beep, His horn went beep beep beep…” I can’t see a Nash without thinking of the old Playmates song.
This beautiful Metropolitan was one of the many cars at the All British Car Show this weekend that I would love to have in my garage. It’s true, driving a bright pink & white Nash could tarnish my macho image, but hey, it is pretty cool!

Yea it’s Fall!
Admittedly, in order to see leaves like these in Texas you have to be in the exactly the right place at exactly the right time (usually late November) and the previous months weather and temperatures have to have been exactly right. I cheated and went to North Carolina last fall where I was virtually assured of being able to capture some great Autumn scenery.
Never the less, I love the Fall season in Austin Texas. The weather starts to cool down, the world gets a little crisper and and everything just seems right.

Mr. John Taylor (his family calls him ‘Pops’) has spent his life working a ranch that his grandfather settled in the late 1800′s. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the opportunity to photograph him on his land. (I actually photographed him at a hotel.) So I placed him on a ranch I had previously shot. This technique also works great when photographing corporate clients. It takes far less time (and money) than taking the client out to a remote location.
Thank you Mr. Taylor. It was a pleasure.

United Airlines had one of the truly great ad slogans of all time. After all, most people over 20 can complete the sentence; “Fly the friendly skies of …”.
I believe it struck a chord with the American psyche because almost above all else, humans want to connect. People want a pleasant ‘friendly’ experience regardless of their endeavor, but especially when they travel. The bottom line is happy employees, make friendly employees & friendly employees make customers want to return.
This is Andy. He is a Service Director and spends most of his days on the ramp gently loading thousands of pounds of luggage on to aircraft destined for far away locations. And although he works very hard, he is virtually always smiling. Just what you would expect from ‘The Friendly Skies’ of United.
