Ghost of the Night Hawk Frisco Shop
by John Rogers on Nov.15, 2009, under Austin Texas, HDR
Once upon a time there was a little restaurant in what was once north Austin called the “Night Hawk Frisco” or more commonly “The Frisco“. This morning my wife & I had breakfast at the ‘new’ Frisco restaurant in Austin. We have been there a few times since they opened in their new location. Every time, I leave a little sad. It never quite lives up to the memories of the old Frisco that was just a few blocks south for over 50 years. Don’t get me wrong, they try & I usually clean my plate. Still, it’s just not the same. Maybe because it’s larger & it just doesn’t have the charm. Perhaps you just can’t live up to a memory. Or just maybe the whole concept that where in the image below you see a unique little diner, now sits a shiny new Walgreens (one of over 7000 Walgreens drug stores) just sorta makes me lose my appetite.

It would be interesting to see the neon glow toned down a bit so that just the tubes glowed / more controlled look. Otherwise this would look interesting with Lilly’s and the Thunderbird in a tryptic.

John, I understand your mixed feelings. Kind of like the “improved” Taco Express, condos, and 24hr Walgreen’s that replaced the old Taco Express, boot shop, and trailer park on South Lamar. Flashy and new, but not “improved”
