Last weekend we went on a wildflower quest and drove the country roads east of San Antonio Texas. I believe we may have been just past peak for that area but we did find some nice spots. My favorite was this field with various rusty farm implements surrounded by fields of bluebonnets.

It’s springtime in Texas and it looks like it’s going to be a great season for wildflowers. Last year was pretty dismal due to the extreme drought we are going through. However, lots of February rain is bringing March flowers… You can see more of my wildflower photographs here.

The Capitol 10k is being run this Sunday in Austin Texas & I’m more than a little disappointed that I won’t be available to join in the festivities. This photo was taken last year not too far from the start on Congress Avenue. If you know any long time participants in the Capitol 10K, I’m sure they would enjoy an art print on canvas or metal of this or another great shot of this Austin Tradition that you can see here.

I love the Alamo draft house. I love it not only because I can enjoy decent food and an adult beverage while I enjoy a great movie, but more so because of the whole “Alamo Experience”. I can’t really describe what that is, you just have to experience it. It’s very ‘Austin’ like. Trust me.
This is yet another photograph taken during SXSW, although Sixth Street in Austin Texas doesn’t look all that different on any weekend evening. You can see my other SXSW images here, or other Austin images here.

I shot this just before I got on the train to head home after my last visit to SXSW 2012. For my international readers you may not be aware that many cities in the United States are not exactly known for their public transportation. In my hometown of Austin Texas we completed the first line of our light rail a couple of years ago. The service is rather limited but it’s a start. With thousands of visitors in town for the festival, the possibility of finding a place to park my car was very slim so I decided to try the train. Wow it’s great! The cars are clean and quiet and the ride is smooth. Plus, the trip cost much less than parking would have been even if parking would have been available not to mention, I saved the fuel. Now if we can just add a few more lines to make it an even more attractive option.

I debated about posting this photo this evening since I posted a very similar photo that was taken an hour or so earlier just a few days ago. However, since SXSW is wrapping up for this year, this just seemed like the best night to put it up. I like the “Where’s Waldo” feel of the piece. You can spend awhile just checking out all the various characters and seeing what they were doing during this little slice of time. You can see my other SXSW photos here including the one previously mentioned. I am curious which one do you like best? post a comment to let me know.

I was walking down Congress Avenue in Austin Texas during SXSW and an Austin band; “The Jazz Pharaohs” were playing in front of The Elephant Room so I thought I’d stop and take a few photos. Great music and nice people.

Last night I ventured downtown again to enjoy the people watching and music listening at SXSW on 6th Street in Austin Texas. While I was there I could not pass up the opportunity to take a few photos. Ok, more than a few… In addition to all the official music venues, you could not walk more than 50 feet without being (hopefully) entertained by musicians and other entertainers entertaining the throngs. The guys in the foreground are members of the quite entertaining indie/folk/rock group NEMES that traveled down from Boston MA for the festival. You can see my other SXSW photos here.

South Congress in Austin is known for it’s many eclectic shops and venues including the many food trailers. The Hey Cupcake food trailer was one of the first and remains one of the most popular of the veritable plethora of foodie options. The only thing really missing from the photo is I should be sitting in one of the empty chairs enjoying a nice chocolate cupcake…
You can see another photo of the Hey Cupcake trailer from an earlier post here.

It’s a beautiful day in Austin Texas. Despite the fact we are in the middle of a record drought, there have been quite a few cloudy grey wet weather days lately so it’s great to see the sun. I’m glad the visitors in town for SXSW are having the opportunity to enjoy a little beautiful Austin spring weather!
