Chicago O’hare Terminal Time Warp
by John Rogers on Jan.29, 2010, under Chicago, HDR, Illinois, Travel
There is this pretty amazing tunnel between the ‘B’ & ‘C’ terminals at Chicago O’Hare International airport. I was stuck at the airport on a three hour layover so I decided to go take some photos. This is actually a combination of a ten second and a six second exposure I shot by setting up my tripod on the people mover as it transported me between the terminals. If you like this image, check out another one of my photos from the same location here. I’d be curious (via your comments) which one you prefer.
Paris Produce Market
by John Rogers on Jan.29, 2010, under Paris, Travel
One of the (many) wonderful things about Paris are the little produce markets. You don’t have to walk very far to find a place like this where you can walk in and almost experience a sort of sensory overload. I love the sights, the smells, the colors. (You probably noticed I like chroma…) And of course, I love the taste!
Horses Galloping through the Driskill Hotel Bar
by John Rogers on Jan.26, 2010, under Architectural Photography, Architecture, Austin Texas, Texas, Travel
My favorite hotel in Austin Texas is the Driskill Hotel on 6th Street. If you find yourself in downtown Austin and want a nice quiet bar just a few feet from the night time party mayhem of Sixth street, check out this place. You can see some more of my images of the Driskill Hotel (here).
Stevie Ray Vaughan Statue
by John Rogers on Jan.25, 2010, under Austin Texas, Travel
As I wrote about in a previous post (here), a statue of Stevie Ray Vaughan stands on Auditorium shores in Austin Texas. I may very well post another image in a few months with an updated skyline. The skyline has changed a bit since I shot this in early February of last year. Did you notice is the liberty the artist took in the guitar position in the shadow vs. the actual statue?
Pennsylvania Waterfall View
by John Rogers on Jan.23, 2010, under HDR, Pennsylvania, Travel
Several years ago a man found this spot on a small rural road in Pennsylvania and hand built an amazing log cabin. Every morning he woke to the sound of falling water & this view out his bedroom window. Unfortunately, the water district concluded it needed a reservoir and the decision was made to build a dam. They then condemned by imminent domain all the homes in the valley that would be flooded including the amazing cabin. I’m not sure if it was because of the unique location or because of the craftsmanship of his home, but the old gentleman was able to make an agreement where he was able to live out his remaining days in his home.
As it turns out, the valley was never flooded. The cabin still stands. It is without windows or floors, but the view out the windows remain as does the sound of the water caressing the moss covered rocks as it passes by.
Walk in the Muir Woods
by John Rogers on Jan.19, 2010, under California, HDR, Travel
I look at this image and I literally smell the fresh air of the forest. It’s interesting how the different sensory inputs can trigger sense memories. Often it is a scent that will trigger a memory or emotion. (That’s why perfume is a billion dollar industry). At least in my case it is rare for something visual to trigger a scent. However this one does it. For me it’s better than a bottle of air freshener.
Next time you are in San Francisco take the short drive to the Muir Wood National Monument. While you are there, whisper a big Thank You for the late John Muir that convinced President Teddy Roosevelt to forever protect our greatest national treasures including Yosemite, Sequoia, the grand Canyon and more.
She Thinks My Tractor’s…
by John Rogers on Jan.18, 2010, under Family Portraits, Portraits
No doubt this lad will some day soon have the ladies singing Kenny Chesney songs. This is one of the individual portraits I did as part of a recent family session. This young man (Judah) was amazingly patient and absolutely adorable. Typically you can not expect a lot of endurance from a two year old but Judah seemed to have fun and could always come up with a great smile.
6th Street Austin Music Action
by John Rogers on Jan.16, 2010, under Austin Texas, HDR, Music, SXSW, Texas, Travel
Sixth Street in Austin Texas is always a lively place. During the day their are numerous shops and great places to enjoy lunch or just a cup of coffee. Daytime on Sixth Street in fun, however the real action starts after the sun goes down and the music comes out. After all, 6th Street is pretty much the music epicenter of the “Live Music Capitol of the World” aka Austin Texas. You can see my other Austin shots here.
